Week 14: Song
Pep talk
Writer's workshop
Homework: NaNoWriMo 50% by Saturday!
5,000 - 10,000 words!
I walked in to class to find Sebastian sitting down. I then sat down, and he was complaining about having to read the blog by himself. I offered to help, but told him for $1,000. He also told me six times that he was going to choose me with me saying no seven times, and i'm not kidding. I wrote down the agenda, and Sebastian declined, as I expected. We watched the take a minute with an animated short film with a guy sailing out at sea, and some other people show up, and some of them get stuck on rocks, but they got released by a wave. Ms. Nakada told Sebastian to get up to read the blog, and he got up miserably. He read his blog without any problem, and I applauded him, but no one else joined in. Sebastian then pointed at me, and chose me for the blog. I took my binder reminder from the table and my backpack, and walked calmly up to the table in front of Ms. Nakada's desk as I got some comments, like how Chris said to me, "You're the goat, Rahm". Sebastian then sat next to me, because his computer was dead, and needed to charge it.
I started by writing the title of the blog, and the agenda. At that point, Ms. Nakada told the class to take out computers to start our novels. We all followed the instructions, and started writing in our novels. I had to manage writing the blog, and my novel at the same time, but Ms. Nakada forgot to start the timer. Someone told her, and she started the timer. Five minutes later, the whole class in order said their percentage, while Aiden had zero percent, and Jacob got a piece of candy which took him a while, and what he chose was a squishy toy. Lilah also got a piece of candy, which I didn't see, and I was sad, because I wanted to write down what she got from Ms. Nakada's candy bag. She then explained again how to use the word count tracker, and how it was insanely absurd if you had to write two thousand words a day. She then scolded Nolan for not writing this week's quote.
After that, we were told to take out our English notebooks, which we all did, and Sebastian left the table. We wrote down the song, "Livin' On a Prayer" by Bon Jovi, and Ms. Nakada said that this was an odd place for the song. It was four minutes and eight seconds long. Ms. Nakada then said two appropriate dance moves for the kind of rock song. She then displayed the lyrics on the Samsung screen. She then started singing along to the song. Ms. Nakada then stopped the song, and explained that she stopped the song because we were halfway through NaNoWriMo, the school year, and our education. She then wrote down the lyrics, "Oh, we're halfway there," and Nolan asked if I was done with the blog, and Ms. Nakada said for me, no. She then resumed the song and wrote some notes on her page in her English notebooks for 6th period. The song slowed down, and stopped. We got told to start working on writer's workshop, but this brought out some chatter. She then got reminded about the pep talk, and she asked the class if we wanted it tomorrow, which is today, and the whole class said yes. Ms. Nakada set up a timer for 15 minutes, and we started working on whatever we had to work on.
Ms. Nakada then said that she was going to be texting family and parents and if you had below 10%, she would be calling home. Caitlyn was then told to get out her notebook for a notebook check, and she said that her notebook got wet, and I think Ms. Nakada dropped the matter. The class started getting loud, and Ms. Nakada told us to quiet down because some people were doing quizzes. Brandon then got called out for doing something on his computer about basketball. A minute later, I heard a comment on the popular Roblox game, Grow a Garden. Chris then came back from doing who-knows-what, and said, "what's up?" At this point in my writing, there were five minutes left on the clock, and Aiden was told out loud that "this may be a good time to work on your English notes." After that, it was quiet enough to hear keys clicking and Dylan saying something to Aiden behind him. I shook my hands, because I have been working on this blog non-stop, and heard someone calling for someone outside in the hall. I then looked around, and noticed Carly reading something off of Chrysta's computer. "Do you have a preference for which parent I," said Ms. Nakada to Dylan "No," he responded as I heard some quiet chatter behind me while writing this down. There was now one and a half minutes left on the timer, and the time was 3:04. I heard more quiet chatter with Nolan talking to Dylan in a quiet voice.
Then, Ms. Nakada asked someone in the back, supposedly Edgar or Seth about their preference about who to call, and the timer rang. It's a digital bell, and Ms. Nakada asked how we did, and we said unenthusiastically, "good." Then the chatter got louder, and I heard Adam saying something about a thousand words. Then Sebastian got called out about who to call, and I didn't hear his response. Chris then said,"What do we do now?" as Ms. Nakada told us to pack up. I quickly put away my notebook, pencil, and popsicle eraser, and Seth got called out for who to contact and now as last time chairs were being put up and I am now rushing to finish this blog, and I heard Nolan and Chris fighting over something, and I packed up and heard Nolan and Caitlyn getting called out for who to call, and I stood behind my chair until the bell rang, and we got dismissed in Ms. Nakada's way.
