Week 3: lines
reader's workshop
Homework - Finish books this week!
I walked into the room, and sat down at the front because I didn't write the blog on Wednesday. I reached into my backpack and pulled out my notebook, and my computer for the blog, but realized that my binder reminder was gone. I came from Ms. Painter's room, and thought that I must have left it there. I went outside and asked Ms. Nakada if I could look for it, and she said to make it quick. I ran back there, and went straight to Ms. Painter, and asked her if she had seen it. She said no, that she didn't pick up anything yet. The bell was about to ring, so I said thank you, and sprinted back to class, just in time for the bell to ring. I sat down, and drank the rest of my water bottle. Then from behind me, Nolan said that Jonathan had my binder, so I went up to Jonathan, and took a peek inside, and sure enough, it was my binder reminder. I snatched it from him, wrote the agenda down quickly, and put it away. We then read the lines, Ms. Nakada reading them first, and the students next with our popcorn reading. We then went over some notes for the poem, which was (I had to look at the poem to remember this) "Hanging Fire" by Audre Lorde. After that, we were told to pack up because we were going to the library for our reader's workshop, so we packed up, put up chairs, and left. (Don't clap yet, there's more.)
We walked to the library with some chatter, and I carried the computer the whole way, still writing the blog with one finger, and sat down at random places. We started reading, and I noticed Adrian laughing in the corner, and Joell told Branden something rude. Jack then told me that Ms. Nakada was gone, and lo and behold, she was. Edgar asked Mr. Gravning for a book, and he would promise to give it back, and Mr. Gravning said okay. Branden then said something about Instagram. Edgar then asked me if I liked his book, and when I looked, it was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Nolan then dropped a book, which according to Jack, was an encyclopedia. Soon after, Lilah walked in, and I noticed a kid from my TA period walk by while Branden clapped on a pair of headphones. Edgar then told Nolan and Jonathan that you're too loud, and they laughed.Nolan then walked up behind me, and said, "Let me see what you're doing." When he saw me typing, he said, "Bro what?" He then said, "You just going to put everything I say?" and I nodded, and after a few seconds, he tapped my shoulder and sat down.
It was about then that I realized that kids laugh at any sound that happens in a quiet room. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Malakai stick out his tongue and bounce up and down in the doorway of the library. I then heard a buzzing sound, and saw Jonathan with his phone out under the table. Soon after, Nolan said, "W computer by the way." Olivia then said "Mr.", and the whole class started talking slightly. "Can I read the blog?" asked Edgar, but I didn't respond because I was too busy writing the blog. Seth said something to me, and when I started to write it down, everyone laughed slightly. He then said something like "Asa", which to everyone responded with snickers. Joell then asked Branden, "What time is the girl's play?" and Seth called out to Josiah, to which Josiah pulled up his hoodie. People started to play odd sounds on their computers, and Chis snickered loudly, and I looked back at him, then wrote it down in the blog. Josiah then held onto my computer, and asked to see the blog, but I pulled it back and kept writing. Jack then told him how it was two large paragraphs, to which I changed it to three. Seth then played another odd sound, and when I looked back, Chris and Seth both said, "Yo, Rahm." Then Sebastian and Nolan came up behind me, and looked at what I read, and Jonathan then came up. Chris then came up and told me to put something on the blog, which I didn't do because it wasn't appropriate, and it started to get a little loud when Mr. Gravning then said, "It's starting to get a little loud." Olivia then started making loud sounds, and Mr. Gravning told her to stop. Jenson then said something that I would never put on this blog. Nolan then told me, "You can put that on the blog, Rahm." Edgar then started skipping across the room, and Noexi and Melissa started playing Jenga. Olivia then said, "pack it up," as I heard snickers and a moan at the table behind me. Then, we all started packing up, because the bell was about to ring, and the Josiah, Jonathan, and Sebastian came up to see what I wrote.
